When I was going through a tougher time in my life, I luckily learned about meditation through a book that was introduced to me by a family member. Although the pain I felt at the time didn't immediately go away, it became much easier for me to become at peace with the events that went on and the circumstances that surrounded my life. Today, I maintain a meditation practice that helps me stay balanced and calm.
1. Relieve stress
Meditation is one of the best ways to relieve stress. By either slowing your thoughts or focusing on something unrelated to work, your stress gently washes away.
2. See situations for what they are
Meditation helps you gain perspective. In the heat of the moment, you’re most likely too emotionally or mentally involved with something to see the big picture. By meditating, you allow yourself to take a step back and see things for what they are. As a result, you’ll be better situated to make a positive decision.
3. Improves focus
Meditation trains you to focus on something with extreme presence and intensity. By focusing on your breath, your body sensations, or some visualizations, you are training your mind to focus. At work, that focus can be extremely powerful.
4. Cultivates calmness
Meditation improves your ability to maintain composure and calmness in difficult times. When difficult circumstances arise, you learn to focus on your breath or your body until those circumstances pass.
5. Improves attitude
A nice meditation session will leave you relaxed, calm, and appreciative. As a result, you’re more likely to bring a positive attitude to work and to the people around you.
If you are interested in starting a meditation practice and have no idea where to begin, I recommend starting with guided meditations. Check out the website below which has a large library of guided meditations. There are meditations for improving relaxation, sleep, self-esteem, focus, and others.
